Unveiled, “Mercadillos of Alicante”, presents a compilation of photographic work created between 2018 and 2021. Its chosen stages are markets and flea markets around the province of Alicante, Spain.

This visual narrative places special emphasis on identity, tradition, values, humanity, and the communion between and within them. Sponsored with a personal and poetic feel, I explore and document people, cultures, and things of peculiar and singular character that coexist within each other from an everyday and mundane perspective.

My enthusiasm for markets and flea markets began during my childhood. Every week, my mother would take me to her local favorite venues. On the other hand, my attraction to trinkets or old and curious objects has always seduced me. Wherever I went, if I came across a market, it was a pit stop for me.

Slowly, as time went on, I began to grow more conscious of its people, the human side, of both, the vendors and visitors like myself. I observed that they were generally survivors, full of personality and identity. Their way of dressing, how they spoke to you. Their tone, their loo, their spirit...

On another level, in making use of photography and markets as a metaphorical setting, the intention of this book is not only to create a dossier of market images but also to create a discourse between a current world governed by technology and a world where we can still reminisce about the sociocultural habits of yesteryear.
